The Legend Electrified, Wuling Introduces All-New Hong Guang EV MPV

2024-09-29

Liuzhou – Wuling today introduced the all-new Hong Guang EV MPV, the first model built on Wuling’s new energy vehicle (NEV) platform for commercial models. It has a 300-km range and a usage cost of less than RMB 0.06 per km. Two variants with a choice of seating layouts are priced at RMB 69,800 and RMB 72,800.

“Wuling has decades of commercial vehicle manufacturing experience and a loyal base of users numbering in the millions,” said Vincent Wong, Executive Vice President of SAIC-GM-Wuling. “With the launch of the Hong Guang EV, Wuling is once again driving to the forefront in the NEV era.

“Our newest model embodies Wuling’s focus on continuous progress and providing value for consumers. It marks another step forward in the new energy commercial vehicle segment.”

Customers can place an order for the Hong Guang EV through the Wuling Auto App or Wuling Auto Mini Program on WeChat. Early buyers can enjoy a special trade-in subsidy of RMB 5,000 for old vehicles and a complimentary 3.5-kW AC charging pile. Those placing an order via official channels until October 7 can enjoy a special National Day offer. A deposit of RMB 1,000 can be used for a discount of RMB 2,000.

A Business Vehicle with Outstanding Value

2024 marks the 14th anniversary of the launch of the Hong Guang nameplate. Since its debut in 2010, it has become the preferred vehicle for many small business owners and families, quickly rising to the top of the domestic segment and becoming the world’s best-selling rear-wheel-drive MPV. It has maintained its position as the segment leader for 13 consecutive years in line with the company’s philosophy of “building what the people need.”

The Hong Guang EV carries on this proud tradition. Users can save an estimated RMB 21,500 on energy and maintenance costs driving 42,000 km per year compared to driving the model with a traditional internal combustion engine. Over three years, this is roughly equivalent to the cost of a new Hong Guang EV.

Embodying Innovation and Tradition

Wuling commercial vehicles are synonymous with durability and reliability. The Hong Guang EV has undergone over 160 cumulative tests, including 14 vehicle crash tests, 80 vehicle misuse tests and more than 200,000 km of high-intensity road testing.

The MPV’s body features a nine-horizontal and two-vertical structure design. Over 56% of the body consists of high-strength steel. Additionally, key areas for passenger protection integrate 1,500 MPa hot-formed steel.

The Hong Guang EV adopts the “new pragmatism” design philosophy, combining the classic styling of its predecessor with new refined elements to achieve a balance of aesthetics and practicality.

Its length of 4,515 mm, width of 1,725 mm, height of 1,790 mm and wheelbase of 2,850 mm enable a spacious interior that is flexible to meet the varying needs of users. The generous dimensions also allow for ample headroom, legroom and shoulder room for all occupants. Customers can select from a pair of seating options: five seats (2+3) and six seats (2+2+2).

The Hong Guang EV has a 75-kW high-power electric rear-wheel-drive system that provides strong power support, excellent climbing ability and stability. This makes it suitable for both urban roads and complex terrains. It also features an intelligent liquid-cooled battery with a range of 300 km under CLTC conditions. An automatic transmission adds to the smooth driving experience.

Safety and convenience were also design priorities. Standard features, including anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution and electric power steering, enhance control and peace of mind. The Hong Guang EV has excellent stability at high speeds and during lane changes. The drag coefficient is as low as 0.32, a 14.4% reduction from the previous generation.
